Virginia Beach, VA. - It took all season, but for the first time during the 2008 Toyota Pro Beach Tour, a repeat winner was crowned. Mike DiPierro, who won the Dewey Beach event with Matt Heath, teamed with Mark VanZweiten to go undefeated through the men's side of the bracket and win his second title of the summer.

DiPierro and VanZweiten advanced to the finals after knocking off Heath and Adam Roberts in the winner's final by scores of 21-18 and 21-19. Heath and Roberts would drop the consolation finals to Gaston Macau and Ihor Akinshyn as Heath injured his ankle midway through the match. DiPierro and VanZweiten swept the finals from Macau and Akinshyn, 21-17 and 21-16. 

Not only did the duo take home the coveted Toyota Pro Beach title, but also family bragging rights as earlier in the event Mike and Mark defeated older brothers Dave DiPierro and Steve VanZweiten in straight sets, 21-17 and 26-24.

Like on the men's side, several AVP women's teams decided to participate in the Toyota Tour event but weren't able to finish higher than fifth against players from the east coast. Tara Kuk and Morgan Flarity cruised to the finals after defeating Cindy Phillips and Rasa Virsilaite in the winner's finals. In the finals, Kuk and Flarity won game three 15-10 over Shayna Munson and Chara Harris to capture their first Toyota crown.

The Toyota Pro Beach East Tour is over for the 2008 season, but will resume in 2009 as it heads into year #11.
