Tour Again Crowns Two New Champions

Ocean City, MD  - For the third time in as many tournaments, the Toyota Pro Beach East Tour saw two teams capture their first titles.  At the Dorchester Street beach, the duo of Matt Henderson and Billy Chenoweth took home the top prize on the men's side, while  Cindy Phillips and Rasa Virsilaite captured the crown in the women's bracket.

Henderson and Chenoweth, who finished second in Dewey Beach, stormed to the finals losing only one game along the way. There they met up with Christian Redmann and Paul Riley, who had knocked off Jason Robertson and Rob Baily in the fourth-place match and then Tony Yates and Greg Hunter in the consolation finals.  Riley and Redmann fought hard in game one of the finals only to lose 15-11 before dropping the second game 15-8, marking Redmann's second straight runner-up finish on tour.  The shocking story of the event was top-seeded Matt Heath and Dave DiPierro losing in the second round and finishing in fifth overall.

Phillips and Virsilaite, seeded fourth overall, also went undefeated on their side of the bracket in the 12-team field which featured players from seven states. Kristen Batt and Megan Wallin, fought their way to the finals by defeating the teams of Wendy Lockhart and Alex Sevillano and Karen Hoyt and Rebecca Smith to set up a rematch from Saturday's action.  As happened the previous day, Phillips and Virsilaite knocked off the top-seeded team this time by scores of 15-12 and 15-6.
